Goats and sheep are here for summer camp!

We are excited to have two goats – Artie and Loaf – and a sheep named Bo on the farm for the summer. They’ll hang out with our summer campers over the next six weeks and help eat down some of the invasive species and understory in our woods and along the field borders. If you are still looking to fill out plans for your kids this summer, our camp signups are weekly, and there are a couple spots remaining. Camp runs for six weeks, beginning Monday, June 26 and finishing Friday, August 4. Click the link below to register.

Calling all Beekeepers

You’re invited to gather this Saturday, June 24 at 9am in the farm’s apiary to cover various aspects of summer management. Whether you’re a veteran or a newbie to beekeeping, all levels of interest and all questions are welcome! This week we’ll be discussing which hives we just had to re-queen and why, signs of trouble, monitoring and treating for mites and other diseases and moving a nuc to a 10-frame box.

This spring has been particularly challenging here in Connecticut because the temperatures have been stubbornly sticking to the lower end of the thermostat. What challenges are you having in your yard? Bring your questions this weekend as we are led by veteran beekeeper (and former CBA president) Ted Jones of Jones Apiaries in Farmington. Suggested donation: $10/pp. Please wear long sleeves and pants and closed-toed shoes. We have veils available for your use and general beekeeping supplies available for purchase. If you can’t make it to the farm this month, consider attending the next installment on July 15. All workshops take place at 9 am.
