CT Trails Day, Farm Stand Hours, and Summer Programming

Seasonal CSA Distribution Begins Tuesday June 18

If you’ve been procrastinating, there are still a few slots left for our seasonal vegetable subscription program. Subscribe to get 10 or 20 weeks of fresh, organic produce. Optional: fruit from High Hill Orchard in Meriden. Pick up at the farm and take advantage of u-pick crops, or pick up in New Haven.

A Walk in the Woods

This Saturday, we’ll highlight Native Americans and their agricultural practices as part of this year’s CT Trails Weekend. On Saturday, June 1 from 10:00am-12:00pm, join us for a guided walk along the farm’s nature trail celebrating the history and the forest that guides our organic farming principles.
Register here and share with us the love of our wooded land.
One of the perks of working at Massaro is that you occasionally get to wander the nature trail during the day to make sure it’s maintained. With the bustle of spring, this is a special treat as you escape into a world of cinnamon fern and hemlock groves. All the sounds from the farm are muffled and bird song and babbling brooks become the soundtrack of the forest.
This is nothing new to us, but this protected space is always enjoyed. This land not only has a history of farming but a history of native peoples before Europeans brought their cows and crops. Arrowheads have been found scattered around the property, evidence that this treasured space was used and appreciated for centuries before we arrived.

Registration Open:

Summer Kids Program at the Farm

School is almost out and that means summer is coming and your kids need something to do! Why not have them join our summer program at the farm for 6-9 year olds!
This hands-on outdoor program focuses on food production and nature exploration, and optimizes small group activities. Healthy farm-based snacks included.
Session #1 July 29- August 2
Session #2 August 5-9
Session #3 August 12-16

Home Grown Teas

Join Holly Burton from Walnut Beach Wellness as we explore tisane, the term for a medicinal herbal infusion. This workshop will guide you through the properties of a range of medicinal and wild herbs that you can grow and forage and how to combine them into unique tisane blends. You’ll get to blend and taste your own creations during the class, and make a pack of herbal tea that you can take home! We’ll also be sharing our tips for tea making materials and equipment.
Check our website calendar for a full listing of upcoming events.
This past weekend, the New Haven Register published a great article about statewide sustainability efforts, highlighting Massaro efforts to impact climate change and the community. If you missed it, check it out here.

Seeking Part Time Educators for

Growing List of Programs

The farm seeks several part-time educators to assist in our growing list of educational programs, such as field and camp trips, after school programming and summer programs for children ages 5-16. Experience leading children, specifically in an outdoor setting, extremely helpful. Interest and passion for working on small sustainable farm is highly preferable. Activities generally scheduled Monday-Friday with occasional weekends.
Summer Intern: We’re also still recruiting for a young adult aged 15-19 (with transportation) to serve as a summer intern. This person needs to be very reliable and willing to work outside in varying conditions. Will assist with garden maintenance, programming and event setup/breakdown. Hours flexible. Stipend available.
Send a resume with your interest to Corey Thomas,[email protected].

Join us this July for Yoga on the Farm. Certified yoga teacher, Natalie Glidden, will be leading classes, July 2, 9, 16 & 23.
