2018 CSA Newsletter – Week #4
Notes from the Farm – 7/2/18:
Important Reminder: because of the holiday, our normal Wednesday delivery will happen tomorrow – Tuesday, July 3rd. All other pick up days and hours will remain the same. If you need to switch your pick up for this week, please let us know immediately so we can plan accordingly.
This week we continue a steady harvest of greens, an increased amount of cucumbers andsummer squash plus our first beets. Most of these beets are an Italian variety called ‘chioggia’, which are a pink on the outside and have a candy-cane white and pink striping on the inside. These beets can be prepared like any other beet – steamed, sauteed, roasted, pickled, shaved or grated and eaten raw. Know that the stripes fade when cooked. Elsewhere on the farm we have early cabbages starting to head up and our first carrots are nearly ready so we’ll have some new crops to enjoy coming soon. With a hot week like this we try to keep the crops and the farmers well hydrated, and hope that you are doing likewise.
Happy 4th of July!
Best,
Farmer Steve and our Farmers: Alyssa, Dan, Kayla, Chloe, Jenn, Becca, Michaela
