2018 CSA Newsletter – Week #2
Notes from the Farm – 6/18/18: Summer solstice comes this week, and the summer heat is definitely here with it. If you’ll be coming to the farm and taking advantage of the U-Pick peas and herbs this week, be sure to drink water to stay hydrated and have appropriate sun protection. This first heat wave might be tough on us, but there are some crops in the field that have been patiently waiting for warmer days and nights. We’ve seen the first flowers and early fruits on our zucchini, yellow squashes and cucumbers, and expect that they will respond nicely to this change in the weather, hopefully leading to a first harvest next week.
This week will bring us more greens, with lettuces, collards, kale and chard, along with the what will likely be the final picking of strawberries. It is a short harvest window for our strawberries, so we try to fill you up with whatever we can get while we can get it. Last week was the largest haul of strawberries we’ve had here over the years, and this week we’ll be sure to get every berry out there for you.
Best,
Farmer Steve and our Farmers: Alyssa, Dan, Kayla, Chloe, Jenn, Michaela
