History: 6 old barnabas road

Preview of version: 1 (current)

Located at the intersection of Old Barnabas and Ansonia Road, this house faces east.

6 Old Barnabas Road is a Colonial Revival house which has a screened porch on the left and a small one-story wing on the right, which connects to a garage. The main block has a five-bay facade and a gabled roof with mutules under the eaves. The central doorway displays decorative sidelights and a fanlight set within a round-arched pediment. Most of the windows contain 8-over-8 sash.

The Mongillo House is a well-preserved, representative example of the Colonial Revival genre. In this suburban stylistic tradition, the older colonial house form is combined with a highly individualized main entrance, always the architectural focal point of the house. One of the last pre-war Colonial Revival houses constructed in Woodbridge, it was built in 1940 for Louis Mongillo on a 2-acre lot, which he bought that year from. Silas and Eva Peck. Mongillo moved here from New Haven and the house remained in the family until the year after his death in 1970. At that time it was sold by his widow to the family of the present owner.
