History: 1056 johnson road

This house sits well back from the west side of lower Johnson Road below the Wilbur Cross Parkway.

1056 Johnson Road is a Greek Revival farmhouse with a gable-to-street orientation. The entry portico on the left of the three-bay facade has columns with such broad flutes that they appear hexagonal, rather than circular in section. Fluted pilasters also flank the door. There is a rectangular multi-paned window in the fully pedimented gable. One-story shed-roofed shallow additions have been added on both side elevations and there is a large addition at the rear.



The 1868 map identifies this well-preserved Greek Revival farmhouse with William F. Morgan, a fact confirmed by the 1870 census. Morgan, who probably built the house about the time of his marriage c. 1850 to Abigail ? (b. 1827), was farming here at that time. Their household also included three children, Laura (19), Henry P. (18), and Fannie J. (16).
